Konkuk University (President Won Jong-pil) has become the first university in South Korea and the second institution after the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology(KICT) to open an Indoor Environmental Management Center designated by the Ministry of Environment. The center was officially opened on November 27. The center's mission is to carry out various tasks, including indoor air quality measurement, management, and related educational programs under the Indoor Air Quality Control Act. A public forum titled "National Debate on Clean Indoor Environments" was held following the opening ceremony.

Son Ok-joo, Director of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Environment, emphasized the importance of collaboration with specialized private organizations to enhance indoor air quality improvement projects and support vulnerable populations. "Following in the footsteps of Konkuk University, we plan to designate more centers for the management of indoor environment to strengthen these efforts," Son said.

In his congratulatory remarks, Konkuk University President Jong-pil Won said, “It is a great responsibility to open the Indoor Environmental Management Center at Konkuk University, which emphasizes ESG management,. We will spare no effort to support the successful operation of the center.”

Kim Jo-cheon, Director of the Indoor Environmental Management Center and a professor in Konkuk’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, also shared his vision. “It is an honor to establish the first university-based Indoor Environmental Management Center. We aim to utilize cutting-edge technologies such as AI and smart management systems to conduct innovative research on indoor environments in response to the challenges of climate change,” he remarked.

The designation by the Ministry of Environment reflects Konkuk University’s excellence in indoor air quality analysis and its advanced indoor environment management equipment. Moving forward, the university plans to integrate state-of-the-art technologies such as IoT and AI into its operations, fostering diverse collaborative and research initiatives in the field of indoor environment management.
